WASP-39 b is a hot giant planet orbiting the star WASP-39 located around 750 light years, or 233 parsecs away from Earth in the constellation of Virgo. The planet is similar to Saturn although it orbits much more closely to its host star. It is notable for containing a substantial amount of water in its atmosphere.
Characteristics[]
WASP-39b has a mass of only 0.28 times that of Jupiter, although it is about 1.27 times larger than Jupiter. The planet orbits its host star WASP-39 every 4 days. Substantial amounts of water in its atmosphere are present according to 2017 and 2018 studies.
WASP-39b also has an extremely low density, near that of WASP-17b, the least dense known exoplanet.
