WASP-39 is a G-type main-sequence star, located around 750 light years, or 233 parsecs away from Earth in the constellation of Virgo. The apparent magnitude of WASP-39 is 12.09. The star has a radius of 0.895 Solar radiuses and a mass of 0.93 Solar masses.

Planetary system[]

In 2011, a team of astronomers working under the SuperWASP program announced the discovery of WASP-39 b in the system. The planet is a hot Saturn-like planet that orbits very close to its host star. While the planet has less mass than Saturn, it is larger than Jupiter. Studies in 2017 showed that the atmosphere of WASP-39 b contains much more water than expected. This means that the planet was formed at a greater distance from the star and subsequently migrated to its current orbit.
