Little is known about the characteristics of the star. The star has a magnitude of 22.25 with a mass of 0.81 solar masses and radius of 0.75 solar radii. The designation "SWEEPS J175853.29-291233.5" is named after the project SWEEPS, formally called the Sagittarius Window Eclipsing Extrasolar Planet Search.

In 2006, a group of astronomers working on the SWEEPS program announced the discovery of a planet, named SWEEPS-01, in this system. It is an unconfirmed planet.
