OGLE-TR-56b is an extrasolar planet located 1500 parsecs away from Earth in the constellation Sagittarius. It orbits the star OGLE-TR-56. This planet was the first exoplanet discovered by using the transit method. The object was discovered by the OGLE project. It once held the record for shortest orbit until WASP-12b was discovered. The short orbital period and close proximity to OGLE-TR-56 make this planet fall into the category of hot Jupiters. The planet is so hot, in fact, it has iron rain.
