NGC 2997 is an face-on unbarred spiral galaxy in the constellation of Antlia. It was discovered March 4, 1793 by astronomer William Herschel.
The galaxy itself belongs to the NGC 2997 Group which is 24.8 million light years from Earth. This group lies in the Virgo Supercluster alongside many other galaxy groups such as the Local Group.
