NGC 288 is a globular cluster in the constellation Sculptor. It is located about 1.8° southeast of the galaxy NGC 253 It can be observed through binoculars in dark skies.

Most of the rich globular star clusters that orbit the Milky Way have cores that are tightly packed with stars, but NGC 288 is one of a minority of low-concentration globulars, with its stars more loosely bound together.

As a final note NGC 288 attracted attention of astronomers in the late 1980s when it was compared with the otherwise similar globular cluster NGC 362 on about the same right ascension (but much more southern), and found that NGC 288 must be about 3 billion years older.
