Kepler-9d is a super-Earth terrestrial extrasolar planet orbiting the star Kepler-9. It is located 2,090 light years away from Earth in the constellation Lyra. It is the closet known planet in the system.

Characteristics[]

Based on the size of its light curve, it is speculated that Kepler-9d is a super-Earth, although its mass is not known. It has a radius around 1.64 times that of Earth, or, 60% larger than the Earth's radius. It orbits extremely closely to its host star, at .0273 AU, and only takes 1.59 days to complete a full orbit. For comparison, the closest planet to the Sun, Mercury, orbits at a distance of 0.387 AU and takes 87.969 days to complete an orbit.
