The Great Dark Spot (also known as GDS-89), was a storm on Neptune that appeared in 1989. It was one in a series of storms that were all similar to Jupiter‘s Great Red Spot, just not as long-lasting. It was observed by Voyager 2 in 1989 during it’s Neptune flyby, and was observed by the Hubble Space Telescope as well. The storm had white clouds around it’s edges. Many more similar storms have been observed after the Great Dark Spot, as Neptune seems to spend half it’s time with one of these spots.
