AXP 1E 1048.1-5937, also known as 1E 1048.1-5937, is an anomalous X-ray pulsar located in the Carina constellation. It was the first AXP observed to emit an SGR-like X-ray burst. It was first discovered as a pulsar in 1984, using data collected by the HEAO-2 (Einstein Observatory) telescope. At the time, anomalous X-ray pulsars were not yet known, and it was suspected to be an X-ray binary class, though this was disproven by the lack of detection of a companion star. It is the closest magnetar to Earth.
