2013 TV135 is an asteroid expected estimated to have a diameter of 400 meters (1,300 ft). On September 16th, 2013, it passed about 0.0045 AU (6,700,000 km; 4,200,000 mi) from Earth. The asteroid was discovered on October 16th, 2013, by Crimean Astrophysical Observatory using images dating back to October 8th, 2013.
Potential earth impact[]
2013 TV135 is a potentially hazardous object, though it has a 1 in 10 chance of hitting the Earth on the Torino scale for impact hazards, which indicates that it "poses no unusual level of danger". The asteroid has about a 1 in 48,000 chance of impacting Earth on August 26th, 2032.
An Earth impact would have the kinetic energy of 2,400 megatons of TNT, approximately 50 times the energy of Russia's 50 Mt Tsar Bomba. But the nominal orbit for 2013 TV135 shows that it will be around 1.7 AU (250,000,000 km; 160,000,000 mi) from Earth on August 26th, 2032. With more observations, NASA JPL fully expects they will be able to significantly reduce, or rule out entirely, any impact probability for the foreseeable future.
